Huawei to Build 5G Network in Uruguay

On August 27, 2019, Huawei signed an MOU with Uruguay regarding the development of a 5G network, industrial digitization, and information and communications technology training. The agreement was signed during a visit by Uruguay’s Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining Guillermo Moncecchi to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen. As part of the agreement, Huawei is reportedly offering training for students from Uruguay. Huawei has been operating in Uruguay since 2006. Elsewhere in South America recently, Huawei announced on August 12 that it would be investing $800 million in a new factory in Brazil.
