Huawei to Build 5G Network in Uruguay

On August 27, 2019, Huawei signed an MOU with Uruguay regard­ing the devel­op­ment of a 5G net­work, indus­tri­al dig­i­ti­za­tion, and infor­ma­tion and com­mu­ni­ca­tions tech­nol­o­gy train­ing. The agree­ment was signed dur­ing a vis­it by Uruguay’s Min­is­ter of Indus­try, Ener­gy, and Min­ing Guiller­mo Mon­cec­chi to Huawei’s head­quar­ters in Shen­zhen. As part of the agree­ment, Huawei is report­ed­ly offer­ing train­ing for stu­dents from Uruguay. Huawei has been oper­at­ing in Uruguay since 2006. Else­where in South Amer­i­ca recent­ly, Huawei announced on August 12 that it would be invest­ing $800 mil­lion in a new fac­to­ry in Brazil.
