RWR Quoted in WSJ Article on Huawei Helping African Governments Spy on Political Opponents

On August 14, RWR COO Andrew Davenport was quoted in a Wall Street Journal investigation into the role that Huawei technicians have played in assisting the domestic espionage activities of certain African governments, including Uganda and Zambia. Mr. Davenport told the Journal that Africa’s importance to China “is at least as much about Beijing’s longer-term vision for recruiting foreign countries to embrace Chinese norms of governance in the digital sphere and in terms of its illiberal political values.” RWR also assisted the Journal with data on locations of Huawei surveillance and network projects in Africa.
